World War II Ended This Day 63 Years Ago

Many Fukuda Cabinet members and two former Japanese Prime Ministers worshiped in the Yasukuni Shrine. The officers included Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara, who just came back from attending Beijing opening ceremony, and Junichiro Koizumi and Shinzo Abe. It is a policy turn for Abe, who visited Beijing right after took office and broke the ice between the two countries, and refused to go to Yasukuni when at office.

Today's worship at the Yasukuni didn't stir too much wave from China who is occupied with the Olympics and South Korea, which also a independence day celebration. South Korean President tried hard to avoid using harsh words toward Japan in his national speech.

The movie Yasukuni is still unofficially and effectively banned in Japan, no screenings planned.

Maybe too much attention has been paid to the Yasukuni Shrine, and a new nonreligious memorial venue is needed, suggested by former cabinet secretary and current Prime Minister Fukuda and reiterated today by Diet President Yohei Kano.

Besides the Yasukuni and historic issues, the toxic dumpings also has prevented Beijing and Tokyo coming to the tables, now Japan's Foreign Minister Komura is on his way to Beijing aiming to solve the issue. He is to meet Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi and No.2 Daibingguo.

Tokyo governor Ishihara criticized Fukuda for not standing up at the Beijing Olympics opening when Japanese athletes entered the stadium and insincere when giving encouraging words to them
